WA, we’ve got your back!

March 9, 2026

Summer may be in the rearview mirror, and the WA Branch has hit the ground running in 2026, with EA negotiations, big infrastructure projects, and upcoming events. Thank you to the bush firies across WA who worked hard to keep our great state safe.

Offshore, we’re gearing up for a massive year, with over 30 EA campaigns coming our way in 2026.We’ve invested in an expanded team of organisers and lawyers to make sure we’re fighting fit against the legion of lawyers from the big end of town. Our OA team is ready for the fight!

Meanwhile, our organising efforts in the Pilbara have ruffled more than a few feathers at the head offices of BHP and Rio, with both CEO’s publicly whinging about union activity on site, all while happily raking in multi-billion dollar profits! A big shout-out to our organising team in the Pilbara, who are making waves for all the right reasons.

This month, we were proud to host our annual International Women’s Day event, with a training day for AWU members on mental health, well-being and work-life balance. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and we hope you had a great time connecting with other members and learning along the way!

Union solidarity is important. That’s why we ran a BBQ with the SDA, to support our members at the Steggles/Baiada Chicken Factory in Osborne Park. Our union team was on site from 4am to 7:30pm, supporting our Food Processing AWU Organiser Suliman, and SDA Organiser, Jess, who met with members at delegates at every shift change of the 24-hour Steggles operations! We won’t be backing down until we secure a decent pay rise, improved rosters, and a better, safer car park.

WA Branch Organisers have also been active at Acciona’s Lumsden Point Port construction site, where our members are working in tough conditions this past summer. As the union for Civil Construction projects, we’re proud to represent all civil construction workers across WA,from Perth to Port Hedland, and everywhere in between!

Now, we’re gearing up for a massive MayDay in Fremantle, so keep an eye out in your inbox for the chance to RSVP and score some exclusive May Day merch!
