AWU Queensland members take up the fight!

June 30, 2025

It’s been a busy time for the AWU Queensland Branch, with AWU Members in Local Government, Health and Energy from every corner of the state standing together at work.

AWU members at Noosa Shire Council are on track to win a better deal after taking their campaign to the streets with industrial action and engaging community members. Workers have won a 14.5% pay rise and beat the council’s attempt to delay this pay rise, when they need to pay their bills now.

In May we celebrated Labour Day, and AWU members turned out at marches and gatherings all across Queensland. It was great to celebrate the hard-fought achievements of our union and to show that we’re not slowing down in our fight for workers.

Queensland Health is attacking AWU Members’ protections from outsourcing and privatisation in EB12. They are trying to remove the clauses stopping private contractors from taking over operational services at Queensland Hospitals.

When these Services are outsourced, wages are slashed, protections are scrapped, entitlements are thrown out the window and patients face sub-standard service.

That’s why the AWU is fighting tooth and nail to stop this and we have called on the Premier to stop this attack on frontline workers.

In Townsville City Council, AWU Members have been fighting for a fair agreement for months and are set to take industrial action soon.

The current wages don’t stack up and these workers need certainty and a fair wage rise to keep up with the cost-of-living. AWU members won’t back down until a decent wage offer is presented.
