A Message from the WA Branch Secretary: Fighting for Fair in the West

The WA Branch has hit the ground running in 2025 negotiating new agreements at Main Roads WA, Air Liquide, CBH Esperance Port, CBH Geraldton Port and Capral Aluminium just to name a few.

The Main Roads agreement provides members with a 5%, 4%, and 3% pay increase each year on top of the boost already received through the in-housing project. Members will also receive 12 months of back pay, a new allowance and improved parental and cultural leave.

We launched our Cost-of-Living Coolers competition, which has been well-received, giving back to you, our members, to help combat the rising cost of living on top of getting you a better deal at work. Congrats to our winners, and thanks to everyone who entered! There’s more competitions to come in the second half of 2025.

The Offshore Alliance partnership with the MUA continues to take oil & gas multinationals to task, and the AWU and MEU, through the Western Mine Workers’ Alliance, continue to put pressure on mining companies in the Pilbara.

We’ve kicked off bargaining at BHP SouthFlank/Mining Area C and are gearing up for negotiations at Rio Tinto Paraburdoo, with clear support from members. It’s time to fight for fair.

At the State Election, the AWU was proud to support AWU members Stephen Price MLA, Cassie Rowe MLA, Samantha Rowe MLC and Lauren Cayoun MLC as they were elected to the WA Parliament.

We look forward to working with them to ensure more things are made in WA by AWU members over the next 4 years.

We now turn our attention to May Day 2025 which is now less than two months away, This year will be our best May Day yet and I would encourage every AWU member to attend and bring your family, workmates and friends along to the family friendly day in Fremantle.
