The season may be changing but our commitment to our members has not.

After months of delays and pushbacks in the Pilbara, BHP has put an offer on the table at Mining Area C and South Flank mine sites moving on guaranteed annual pay increases, a proper classification structure, dispute resolution and allowances. The offer, while a step forward, is not good enough and needs improvement and we won’t stop fighting until our members get their fair share.

New Organiser Anthony hit the road with the AWU team to talk to members about Water Corp’s EBA offer and commitment to reviewing the Civil framework.

This is a framework designed to ensure our members’ work is adequately recognised and remunerated through accurate job descriptions. The EBA offer was unceremoniously voted down and the AWU will now return to the bargaining table.

Shane and our DBCA delegates are working hard to forge a new fire agreement and keep our community safe. Meanwhile, Suliman has achieved a 100% YES vote at the Vines Resort in the Swan Valley for our landscaping and maintenance members – a fantastic result which reflects the hard work of Geoff their delegate.

Ben has broken new ground, starting negotiations for QANTAS engineers and maintenance workers at Network Aviation at the Perth Airport.

Our Offshore Alliance members at INPEX have commenced protected industrial action, due to the lack of progress with their EBA, undertaking work stoppages every day until INPEX takes their EBA claims seriously.

I had the solemn responsibility of representing our members at the National Suicide Prevention Conference in Sydney where we shared our experience of mental health and suicide prevention in the workplace – one death is one too many and we will do whatever we can to make our workplaces safer. Watch this space. We also proudly celebrated our union mums through our Mother’s Day competition and marked International Workers’ Memorial Day by laying a wreath for all those who have died at work in Solidarity Park.
