The AWU Victorian Branch encourages all of our Delegates and HSRs to attend union training to share knowledge and develop important skills that will assist you in your roles.

We believe an informed representative base in the workplace is the key to strengthening the union as a whole.

What we offer:

• HSR Initial OHS Training Course (Victorian WorkSafe Authority Approved)
• HSR Refresher OHS Training Course (Victorian WorkSafe Authority Approved)
• Delegates Stage One, Two, and Three Courses as well as Delegate 1 – Day Refreshers
• Annual General Meeting for all Delegate and HSRs to provide important industrial & safety update.

The AWU Training department is committed to providing our Delegates and HSRs with the tools needed to fulfil their roles to the best of their ability. Delegate and HSR training is available throughout the year.

Our team provides experience and support in both Delegate and OHS Training and are available for further assistance if required.

The Courses:

Delegates 1: Foundations of an Active Union – 2 Day Course

This Course is designed to educate a delegate with a strong based on knowledge about their role and how to actively perform it.

Delegates 2 and Delegates 3: Building a Strong Union – 2 Day Course

This course follows on from Delegates 1 and further develops the participants’ skills and knowledge.

Delegates Refresher – 1 Day Course

This course is a yearly refresher course, designed to provide senior delegates an opportunity to revise and further develop their skills. The course will include updates on changes throughout the year to legislation and EEO and is the next stage for all who have completed their Advanced Delegates Training

2025 HSR Initial OHS Training Course

The AWU is approved by WorkSafe to deliver the HSR Initial OHS Training Course. This WorkSafe-approved course ensures Health and Safety Representatives receive comprehensive training in occupational health and safety

HSR Initial OHS Training Course – Cost $1000 per person (payable by employer)

This introductory OHS course has been approved by WorkSafe Victoria. The HSR Initial OHS Training Course is 5 days and provides HSRs with the basic skills and information to represent members in matters relating to OHS.

Under Section 67 (3)(c) of the Victorian OHS Act 2004, elected HSRs are entitled to attend an approved training course chosen by the HSR in consultation with their employer

The AWU encourage all HSRs to attend training delivered by their union.

2025 HSR Refresher OHS Training Course

The AWU is a WorkSafe-approved Training Provider for Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs). We offer the following WorkSafe-approved courses for HSRs:

Participants applying for refresher courses should specify the following titles:

HSR Refresher OHS Training Course – Plant
HSR Refresher OHS Training Course – Work-related Stress

HSR Refresher OHS Training Course – Cost $450 per person (payable by employer)

The Victorian OHS Act entitles elected Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) to attend Annual OHS Refresher training. These modular courses, subject to WorkSafe approval, provide HSRs with the opportunity to revise current OHS knowledge and further develop skills in identifying and controlling workplace hazards. All representatives are encouraged to attend this course each year following their Initial 5-Day Training.

Under Section 67(3)(c) of the Victorian OHS Act 2004, elected HSRs have the right to attend an approved training course with a provider of their choice in consultation with their employer. We encourage all AWU HSRs to prioritise training delivered by their union.
