The AWU is one of Australia's largest and oldest unions having been formed in 1886.

Our Branch was founded in 1927 when hundreds of workers moved from Lithgow to work in the new Port Kembla Steelworks.

Those pioneer workers brought their families and possesions with them down to Port Kembla and they also brought their union.

The Port Kembla Branch of the Federated Ironworkers Association was founded in 1928 and since that time we have never stopped fighting to ensure our members are always put first.
