An estimated 20,000 unionists gathered in Brisbane to participate in the march from Spring Hill to the RNA Showgrounds at Bowen Hills.

A number of Labor politicians also turned out for the celebrations including Premier Anna Bligh who congratulated voters who helped make sure that "WorkChoices did not become part of the landscape of this country."

Larger than expected crowds also turned out in regional centres throughout the state including in Barcaldine, where 35 clones and cuttings of the historical Tree of Knowledge were presented to the local council.

The 160 year old ghost gum tree, regarded as the birthplace of The Australian Labor Party died in 2006 after being poisoned in suspicious circumstances.
