Home Campaigns Support the Newcastle Boeing Workers News
100 Days and still waiting for a Fair GoBoeing workers will mark their 100th day of being denied the right to choose a collective agreement at a rally outside the office of a Howard Government MP, near Newcastle today.AWU National Secretary Bill Shorten said more than 100 local community members were expected to show their support for the 29 workers locked in the dispute by joining the rally outside the office of backbencher Bob Baldwin. "We will be calling on Bob Baldwin and his masters in Canberra to show some common sense and common decency and admit that these workers are not asking for anything unreasonable," Mr Shorten said. "All these skilled technicians want to be able to do is exercise their right to have their union negotiate with their employer on their behalf," he said. "The Howard Government is spending millions of dollars on advertising that says all Australian workers have and will retain the right to choose a collective agreement. "But when it comes to the crunch, the Prime Minister and his government have chosen to side with big business and help deny these Hunter Valley workers a fair go."
